ContentGen.io Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is ContentGen.io free?

Yes, adding your sitemap, testing prompts and previewing generated content is all free!

If you want to generate content at scale, export content or publish the content directly on your website via integration, you can use credits to do that.

We give you 1,000 credits for signing up. After that, there are paid plans available.

2. Can I preview content before using credits to generate it?

Yes, you can. Go to a page, select a prompt, and click Preview. This shows you a draft without using credits, helping you refine your prompt before generating content in bulk.

3. What data sources does ContentGen.io use?

ContentGen.io can use your sitemap, Google Search Console data, listing descriptions and any additional segments you provide. Prompts can also reference these data points directly.

4. How do validation limits work?

When creating a prompt, you can set minimum and maximum word or character counts. These validation rules help ensure outputs stay within your requirements.

5. What if I’m not happy with the generated content?

You can adjust your prompt, refine recipe rules, or run previews on individual pages until the output meets your needs. Content can be regenerated at any time.

6. Do I need a sitemap to use ContentGen.io?

Yes — your sitemap helps ContentGen.io understand your site structure and available pages. You can add one or multiple sitemaps in your workspace settings. If you don’t have a sitemap, we recommend generating one first so the tool can find your pages.

7. What’s the difference between prompts, recipes, and segments?

  • Prompts = tell ContentGen.io what to write and how to write it (length, tone, rules).
  • Recipes = filters that decide which pages the prompt applies to (e.g. only pages with >1 keyword and <30 listings).
  • Segments = extra sets of URLs you provide (e.g. seasonal landing pages, campaign pages) to add more context.

Together, they let you target the right pages with the right style of content.

8. What happens if the content doesn’t meet my validation rules?

When you set word or character count limits in your prompt, ContentGen.io validates the output. If the result doesn’t meet your rules, you’ll see a validation result in the export file or within the content view. You can then regenerate or adjust your prompt.

9. How do I know when to publish versus export?

Publish through ContentGen.io if you want approved content to go live automatically on your site.

Export to Google Sheets if you prefer to review, edit, or upload content manually into your CMS. Many teams export for stakeholder approval before pushing live.

10. Where do I find exported content?

Exports are processed into Google Sheets and can be found under the Downloads tab. Each sheet contains the page URL, the generated content, the valid output, and the validation result.

11. How often can I crawl my site?

You can set crawl frequency in your workspace settings. For fast-changing sites (e.g. ecommerce or seasonal content), more frequent crawls ensure ContentGen.io has up-to-date data. For stable sites, less frequent crawls may be enough. You can also trigger a manual crawl at any time.
